Books and Resources

  • https://immunisationhandbook.govcms.gov.au – this is the government website page with fact sheets on immunisation for those who are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breast feeding. It also offers evidence based information on immunisations for other community groups. Also have a look at talkingaboutimmunisation.org.au for a "plain English" family guide.
  • miscarriageassociation.org.uk and Tommys.org can both be invaluable resources for families that have lost a baby. There are Australian based resources as well: SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Support) organisation, and the Qld government guidelines on grief and loss may be helpful.
  • Mental health in obstetrics and gynaecology can sometimes be a crucial part of the care plan. We are very grateful to enjoy a close professional association with North Cairns Clinical Psychology;  where clinical need is assessed as critical, there is a streamlined referral pathway to ensure that you get the help you need without an excessive wait time. PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia) is another excellent resource with web and phone based support for when you feel that you just can't get in front of someone to talk about things.
  • Lactation and lactation suppression are ably supported by the Australian Breast Feeding Assocation (ABA)
  • Urogynaecology is a sub-speciality of gynaecology dealing with continence in women and the non-surgical and surgical treatment of this. We are very excited to welcome Dr. Deepa Gopinath to the rooms next to Cairns Obstetrics and Gynaecology and wish her all the best at Cairns Urogynaecology.
  • RANZCOG (Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) provide a variety of patient education pamphlets on both obstetrics and gynaecology - access them here.
  • Queensland Fertility Group is the lab which Dr. Natalie uses to do her Fertility work - they arrange for semen analysis as well as have fertility nurses who will take you through the medical process as well as a financial consent. Please go to the QFG website to obtain patient resources and more information.
  • Contraception is covered in detail by True (formerly Family Planning Queensland). Here you can read all about your options including intrauterine devices (IUD's), diaphragms and vasectomy.
  • Our colleagues at Sonic Genetics Labs offer the Non-Invasvie Prenatal Test (NIPT) known as "Harmony". Please click here to access their patient information sheet about this test, and in particular, why it may not provide a result. Information on carrier screening (3 gene and extended screening) can be accessed here
  • Labarotary tests will be ordered as part of your care, please click on the link to either Sullivan and Nicolaides (SNP) or Queensland Medical Laboratories (QML)  to access their patient information portals to answer all your questions regarding your tests that have been ordered by Dr. Kiesey-Calding. Please note that there is an arrangement between QFG (Queensland Fertility Group) and QML for bloods done in cycle for IVF patients - please contact the lab directly if you have any questions.
  • Covid-19 - latest updates at the RANZCOG website via the direct link here and the Australian Government Department of Health updates here.
